A natural process or component of the Earth system that helps to control and stabilise the planet’s climate by influencing temperature, atmospheric composition, or heat distribution. Examples include oceans, forests, and the carbon cycle, which absorb and store carbon dioxide, and ice and snow, which reflect solar radiation through the albedo effect.
