Mato Grosso

A large state in central-west Brazil known for its mix of Amazon rainforest, Cerrado savannah, and Pantanal wetlands. Mato Grosso is a major centre of agricultural expansion, especially soybean farming and cattle ranching, and is one of the Brazilian states most affected by deforestation, land-use change, and associated carbon emissions.
