Chemical Weathering

The breakdown of rocks through chemical reactions, often involving water and gases such as carbon dioxide. In the carbon cycle, it removes CO₂ from the atmosphere when carbonic acid in rainwater reacts with carbonate rocks, forming dissolved compounds carried to the oceans.
