Oxidation

A chemical weathering process in which minerals react with oxygen, often forming oxides. In the carbon cycle, oxidation can release carbon dioxide when oxygen reacts with organic matter or certain minerals, contributing to the movement of carbon between the lithosphere and the atmosphere.
